Marcy Conrad Nutt

AIA • ALA • LEED AP BD+C

Marcy grew up in a small town in southwest Missouri and attended the Fay Jones School of Architecture in the beautiful mountains of northwest Arkansas. During school, she was an intern for two summers at Butler, Rosenbury & Partners in Springfield, Missouri and for one summer at Perry Butcher’s office in Rogers, Arkansas, where she worked on retail, ecclesiastical, and historic preservation/reuse projects. In 2001 Marcy graduated summa cum laude and moved to Minneapolis, where she joined the up and coming architecture firm of James Dayton Design. Within a year of joining the firm, she was entrusted with her own single and multi-family residential projects. A few years later, she successfully managed the critically acclaimed MacPhail Center for Music building project in downtown Minneapolis. After almost seven years in James Dayton’s office, Marcy joined the nationally renowned firm, SmithGroup, where she focused on sustainability issues and designed successful office environments. In 2009, James and Marcy began Conrad + Nutt Studio.

What Marcy truly enjoys about the profession of architecture is the balance and combination of extreme practicality, building tectonics, and art involved. She is engaged in her community through advocacy work for increasing affordable housing and ending homelessness initiatives. She served for five years on a committee of joint faith communities which saved and revitalized a below market rate apartment and built a new supportive housing project for homeless and former foster care youth. She has also lead a relief volunteer construction crew to Biloxi, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, has built homes through various affordable housing groups, and enjoys tinkering with her own home when time allows.

She is a registered architect in the state of Minnesota, and a LEED accredited professional. Membership affiliations include AIA, ALA, NCARB, the University of Arkansas Alumni, and she has participated in the University of Minnesota School of Architecture mentorship program.
